Coninx’s paintings are primarily executed in oil on canvas. However, his quest for perfect harmony between the finished and unfinished elements of his work leads him to incorporate pastel into the unfinished areas. This blend of techniques results in a distinctive style that radiates a cheerful and happy flair. “I strive for a balance between the completed and the in-progress parts of my paintings, using pastel to introduce an element of spontaneity and warmth,” he explains.

His approach is not just technical but deeply personal. In 2020, Coninx began dedicating himself fully to painting, a transition from earlier work that included a variety of other interests and experiences. This commitment was underscored by his first major solo exhibition in 2021 at the ‘Eilandje’ represented by Galerie Raf Van Severen ever since.

In a world often overshadowed by negativity, Laurenz emphasizes the power of maintaining a positive outlook. “Positivity is the key to navigating life’s challenges,” he asserts. “Even in difficult times, holding on to positivity helps you find your way through. It’s the driving force that keeps me moving forward.” This philosophy not only shapes his art but also his approach to life, creating a personal sanctuary of creativity and joy.

Coninx’s journey is also marked by a sense of adventure and exploration. He has traveled extensively, finding inspiration in diverse cultures and landscapes. “Traveling opens my mind and helps me see the world from new perspectives,” he shares. His travels have taken him to places like Mexico and Portugal, which have significantly influenced his artistic vision. “It’s about getting a shock, a new perspective on what we have here and what others have elsewhere. It keeps me grounded and appreciative of what we have.” noted painter.

Being your own boss

In his artistic practice, Laurenz Coninx maintains a balance between freedom and discipline. He acknowledges the challenges of working independently, stating, “Being my own boss is both liberating and confronting. It means I have to rely solely on my own motivation and creativity.” Despite these challenges, he remains optimistic and driven by a positive outlook.
